NEW research shows many Australian homeowners are using their garages as children’s play areas. According to a recent poll by garage door manufacturer B&D Doors almost 10 per cent of respondents to an online poll said they used their garages as recreational areas for youngsters, rather than as car spaces. The company says it is important that garages are made safe and child-friendly. There are now child safety products available to make these pseudo rumpus rooms safer. For example, there are safety infra-red beams that allow the door to automatically stop and reverse without hitting a child if the beam is broken while a child is playing near a closing door.
