- KIMBERLEY VLASIC

CAIRNS is ready to roll for a week-long festival celebrating life in the tropics.

Today’s Cairns Festival grand parade has been confirmed as the largest event of its kind in Australia after attracting a record 90 floats.

More than 3000 people and 20 dogs will proceed from Munro Martin Parklands and will be led by the Cairns Reef City Roller Girls.

Cairns Regional Council Cultural Services chairwoman Cr Linda Cooper encouraged people to join in the fun.

“If you set off early with blankets, there are lots of activities happening throughout the afternoon right up to parade start at 5.30pm.

“After the parade, we’re hoping people stick around for the 7.30pm fireworks.” Parade float guide – pages 28-29
