HAND-TO-HAND COMBAT

THE Japanese martial art of judo is among the world’s most popular and has been part of almost every Olympic Games program since 1964. It evolved from a modern martial art to a combat style where the objective is to either throw or take down an opponent to the ground and immobilise them. Participants use strikes and thrusts of the hands and feet, and some noncompetitive forms can even include weapons. Cairns has a number of judo clubs which are suitable for people of all skill levels, including beginners.
