On Australia Day
So a council in WA wants to dump Australia Day so it doesn’t upset some people. We’ve said sorry many times now, talked over invasion day, there is Naidoc Week and we have Australia Day. Isn’t it time to finally move on ... as one! Tracy, City
How ridiculous are we getting? Fremantle not having fireworks on Australia Day in case it offends the indigenous population. We are going to need a passport to get into our own country soon. Bill, Mooroobool
On other matters
In a city with 15% plus unemployment, another giant sending jobs south under an (outdated) business model of centralisation. Six more families no longer contributing to our already dismal economy, 6 mortgages/rent not being paid, numer- ous kids pulled out of sporting interests, I can go on forever. Support businesses who support our economy, enough of our money goes south. Dragon, Edmonton
Federal Treasurer’s rant. I wonder if Scott Morrison also includes the past and present politicians in the group that are “accustomed to receiving Government benefits and handouts”? Scott, clean up your own backyard first. Don, Earlville
On jobs in Cairns. We need to convert non-productive sugar cane farms into growing bananas or other similar multi employing industries. Did you know that one of the farms alone in Tully grow over 1000 acres of bananas. Who is stopping industries like that from coming to Cairns? KJ, Edmonton
Someone should inform Mr Turnbull, that it would be a waste of time to download a petrol price app to find cheapest petrol in Cairns as there is never any difference between any of the outlets here. And it would be a waste of time and money to drive to Innisfail or the Tablelands. Anne, Mooroobool
Dogs of War smitten by the horseless Cowboys. Go JT and the team. Jimmy, Northern Beaches
Great to see Rob Pyne getting things done as an independent! Kate St has been a hazard for years! Mal, Woree
DeLacy got our Convention Centre paid for by granting Reef Casino licence. Pitt missed his chance. We could have had the sports stadium paid by Aquis. G.A, Brinsmead
Man admits to feeding cassowary then complains when it becomes too friendly. Penalty to cassowary who is removed. Fair? I think not. Babs, Cairns
Where are all the speed cameras? We would see on the Bruce Highway stupid drivers using it as a racetrack. I’m doing 80km/h, they’re passing me doing 100km/h early in the morning. Doug, Edmonton
Congratulations Maureen Cameron, your team and all performers at The Gift of Music concert. It was an amazing and beautiful experience. Thank you! Barry & Liz, Kanimbla
