News Corp’s 5000 Jobs in 50 Days campaign is coinciding with an increase in tourism numbers and Cairns’ employers are coming on board.

Post’s call to action by offering a travel consultant role for a Cairns jobseeker.
Ms Marsden said the role was perfect for a local who loved the outdoors and was passionate about Far North Queensland.
No experience is necessary for the role but a Certificate III in Tourism would be “fantastic”. The job would initially be a weekday role.

Travstar owners Kim Marsden and Jodi Nelson responded to the Cairns Post’s call to action by offering a travel consultant role for a Cairns jobseeker.
Ms Marsden said the role was perfect for a local who loved the outdoors and was passionate about Far North Queensland.
“We often get people applying from outside of Cairns, but we’re an inbound travel agent, we sell North Queensland,” she said.
“The people in our office, in general, are locals and they can answer questions about the whole region. They want a career in tourism helping people to enjoy North Queensland.”
No experience is necessary for the role, but a Certificate III in Tourism would be “fantastic”.
The job would initially be a weekday role, moving to a roster that included weekends.
“If people are really interested in diving or other activities that’s great and if they like writing that would be useful,” Ms Marsden said.
“We’re not employing because somebody’s leaving, we’re employing because tourism is so busy at the moment.”

General manager Nic O’Donnell said he joined the campaign to support locals.
“As a local employer, we’re keen to support locals in longterm employment,” she said.
