Car smash vic­tim cut free

THE foren­sic crash unit is in­ves­ti­gat­ing fol­low­ing a two car crash at Smith­field in which a ve­hi­cle’s roof had to be peeled back us­ing the jaws of life.

The in­ci­dent hap­pened about 4.20pm yes­ter­day on the cor­ner of Mc­Gre­gor Rd and Fac­ulty Cl. Po­lice said a 27year-old woman was try­ing to turn right into Fac­ulty Cl when her ve­hi­cle and a car be­ing driven by a 46-year-old man trav­el­ling east, col­lided.

The man was trapped for close to half an hour.

The man was taken to Cairns Hos­pi­tal as a pre­cau­tion.

The woman did not sus­tain any se­ri­ous in­juries.

Mc­Gre­gor Rd east­bound was briefly closed to traf­fic as a re­sult of the crash.
