CON­VICTED con­man Peter Fos­ter has faced a Queens­land court charged with de­fraud­ing more than $2 mil­lion through an al­leged sports bet­ting scam. Fos­ter, 54, was ar­rested on the Gold Coast and has made an ap­pli­ca­tion for bail in South­port Mag­is­trates Court. The court heard he is fac­ing seven charges of fraud from NSW po­lice over al­leged in­volve­ment with Sports Trad­ing Club com­pany. Po­lice al­lege Fos­ter, pos­ing un­der alias Mark Hughes, per­suaded a South African-born man liv­ing in WA to in­vest more than $1.5 mil­lion in the club in 2013. It’s al­leged the man dis­cov­ered Fos­ter’s iden­tity and, af­ter learn­ing of his his­tory as a fraud­ster, con­tacted po­lice.
