The Weekend Post - - Careers -

IF you are an aspiring female firefighter, now is the time to apply for your dream job, with all states becoming conscious of recruiting more women to the previously male-dominated career.

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services assistant commissioner Andrew Short says QFES is committed to reflecting the Queensland community’s diversity in its workforce.

“QFES has reviewed its recruitment process in an effort to appeal to diverse groups within the community and attract greater diversity throughout the firefighting ranks, including female firefighters,” he says.

“While we would like the fire service to be more reflective of the community we serve, our recruitment process is not about achieving a certain number, it is about recruiting the right people for the job.”

Interstate fire services have introduced 50:50 gender hiring policies.
