Dad charged over cruelty to three children, two dogs and a wallaby
A CAIRNS father of three children has been charged with cruelty in one of the worst cases of neglect investigated by the city’s police in years.
The three children, as well as two dogs and a wallaby, have been taken into care.
Detectives have described the Bentley Park property as a vir- tual “house of horrors” filled with rotten food, rubbish and filth.
The children, a five-year-old girl and two boys aged seven and 10, plus the three animals were allegedly living in squalor and all were showing obvious signs of malnutrition.
The RSPCA has seized the two dogs and is caring for them.
A BABINDA man will reappear in a Cairns court this morning after being charged with stabbing a woman at a Gordonvale house. Kelvin Lowe, 23, has been charged with wounding after he allegedly used a pocket knife to attack the 47-year-old at a Pritchard Cl residence about 11.40pm on Thursday. He allegedly fled the scene but was arrested at a Babinda property early yesterday. He appeared briefly in the Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday charged with one count of wounding and the case was adjourned until today so he could seek legal advice. The woman suffered minor injuries and was treated at Cairns Hospital.
