Taser pointed in city chase

-

AN ALLEGED thief, who was yesterday confronted by a police officer with a taser outside Cairns Central shopping centre, will appear in court this morning.

It is alleged a 46-year-old man confronted a police officer after he was spotted with several stolen items, including a blow-up pool, electrical equipment and clothing.

It is understood that when police recognised the man, who was wanted for breaching his bail conditions, he fled from officers.

Once the man realised he would not escape, he allegedly shaped up to punch one of the police officers. It was then the officer pointed the taser at the alleged offender.

The man then stopped and allowed police to arrest him.

The incident happened about 3pm. The man faces five charges of stealing, one serious assault on police and breach of bail conditions.
