AIM TO GROW TOGETHER
Q So Matt, what brought you to Cairns to take up the role of general manager of FNQ Football? A It was an opportunity to utilise what information I’ve accumulated over the last eight years with the Australian Sports Commission about player participation, junior participation, marketing, governance, a whole range of elements that go into managing sporting organisations. So the desire to want to come back and actually put that knowledge into practice. I wanted to come here and have challenges in front of me that I could find solutions for as opposed to just coming in and doing the same thing I did last week and the week before that. Q How would you describe your style of management? How do you plan to meet the needs of football clubs in the region? A My style of management is being mindful of everybody’s needs. I want to see the game grow in its entirety and I want everybody to have equal opportunities to do that and I see my role is working directly with the clubs so they can grow. So something the zone can do to help a particular club improve their membership, then we work in partnership with those things. It’s not just us doing it, and we’re not leaving the clubs to their own devices. We all own a stake in how we grow the pie.
