SOLD ON RETAIL

FOOT IN DOOR LED TO BIGGER STEPS

-

A CHRISTMAS casual job at David Jones was the opportunity Louise Miller needed to pursue her retail career with the department store.

Miller, 41, was working in another retail job when she applied to get on the company’s payroll in 2007.

“I knew that they had a great leadership edge in retail, that they had a reputation for solid training and focus for advancement,” she says. “What really struck me was a breadth of product offering across their sites.”

Miller has since worked her way up from the shop floor, first offered a supervisor role after her Christmas casual stint, then became a sales manager and department manager, to now as a store manager.

“A Christmas casual role is a great opportunity and invaluable experience to get into the industry and the company and to take it from there,” she says. “I took every piece of opportunity which was given to me, the development and learning that David Jones offered.”
