Seahawks packing field in grand final clashes
A MODERN day corroboree will be centred on Barlow Park today as 2000 Yarrabah rugby league fans make their way to the CDRL grand final day.
The Seahawks have three grades – second division, reserve grade and A-grade – in the four finals, but club president Lucresia Willett said there was no risk of fans losing their voice ahead of the main game.
It’s the first time Yarrabah has qualified for the A-grade grand final in their 17-year his- tory, but will not have it easy against an Innisfail side that has lost just one game all year.
“The entire town will be in Cairns, except the old people,” Seahawks president Lucresia Willett said.
“We’ve had a core group of loyal supporters, but with the hype in the community at the moment, everybody wants to do this and that and be at Barlow Park.”
She said, while the return of former Northern Pride star Hezron Murgha to Yarrabah A-grade had lifted everyone, every team had strong leadership within to reach the last day of the season.
The A-grade grand final between Yarrabah and Innisfail Brothers kicks off at 6.30pm.
