SAB seals deal for Baux­ite Hills Mine

A MIN­ING con­tract has been awarded for an emerg­ing Far North baux­ite pro­ject.

SAB Min­ing won the con­tract for the Baux­ite Hills Mine, 100km north of Weipa, be­ing un­der­taken by ASX-listed com­pany Metro Min­ing.

“Metro is de­lighted to have en­gaged SAB Min­ing to carry out the min­ing ser­vices for the Baux­ite Hills Mine,” said Metro Min­ing man­ag­ing di­rec­tor Si­mon Fin­nis.

“SAB has been in­te­gral in as­sist­ing Metro ad­vance the pro­ject to where it is to­day and their for­mal ap­point­ment for min­ing op­er­a­tions rep­re­sents an­other key mile­stone for the pro­ject.

“Metro and SAB will work to­gether to pre­pare for min­ing ac­tiv­i­ties with the view of mo­bil­is­ing the min­ing fleet to site in March 2018, ahead of fore­cast pro­duc­tion start­ing in April 2018.”

SAB is cur­rently on-site un­der­tak­ing civil works for mine con­struc­tion.

The scope of the two-year con­tract in­cludes min­ing baux­ite, load­ing of barges, re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of mined ar­eas and equip­ment main­te­nance.
