Big game sermon-stopper

-

Diehard Cowboys fan and pastor Michelle Fredericks said the congregation would instead pray for a grand final win at the morning session.

“We were all very excited with the fact the Cowboys fought their way through and decided we definitely want to create opportunity for church members to watch it and get behind the boys,” she said.

“This is another opportunity to create a community around something we love and that’s the Cowboys.”

Calvary Christian Church meets in many locations across Queensland, such as Emerald, Gold Coast, Townsville and Yeppoon.

The Cairns branch has 750 members meeting at the Edge Hill State School for 90-minute services at 9am and 6pm.

Ms Fredericks said the service was rarely cancelled, but acknowledged the special occasion. “Only if there is a cyclone and we are warned not to drive,” she said.

“Unless there is a cyclone or the Cowboys are in the grand final – church goes on.”
