AFL party tops a Saturday trifecta

-

UP to 700 keen punters and AFL fans are expected to converge at the Cairns Jockey Club today to celebrate grand final day in style.

General manager John Cameron said the club’s regular race day had been moved to coincide with the big weekend of entertainment.

“We shifted this race day to fit in with the Elton John concert,” he said. “We’ve got the Pirates touch footy club coming for their reunion, there’ll be a hen’s party, a cocktail party and a backpackers party.”

Gates open at 11am today. The first race is due to start at 12.45pm. Fashions on the field will be held after race 3 (2.10pm) on the main stage and the AFL grand final will also be beaming on venue screens.
