ONE LAST CHANCE

QIf you were on the club’s board, would you be extending the contract of Aaron Fearne following the season?

AI’ve known Aaron for 20 years, from when we first played together for the Cairns Marlins and won a CBA National Championship in 1998. There’s absolutely no denying that he’s a committed, devoted and meticulous coach. The NBL is a professional sporting business though and taking the emotion out of the question, it would be extremely difficult for the Taipans board to justify another contract extension for a coach who in nine years has delivered zero titles, had only three playoff appearances and owns a losing overall record. Personally, I’d give him one more season at the helm to deliver the city a championship. If the board does decide to give him another opportunity, it needs to be under the proviso that he shows an ability to adapt and change. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
