Cape aerodrome works to improve services

-

FIVE aerodromes in Cape York will receive vital repairs and upgrades under round five of the Government’s Remote Airstrip Upgrade Program.

Federal Leichhardt MP Warren Entsch (right) said the upgrades would improve access to basic services and deliveries.

“Upgrades like this will ensure our remote communities remain well-connected and will help alleviate the tyranny of distance,” he said.

“I have seen first-hand some of the airstrips Cape York pilots are forced to operate on and I know these upgrades will be welcomed.”

Through the program Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council will receive $1.565 million, Lockhart River Aboriginal Shire Council will receive $371,000, Chuulangun Aboriginal Corporation will receive almost $180,000, and Cook Shire Council will match the Federal Government’s $15,000 grant for repairs at the Coen aerodrome, and match a $4,250 grant for upgrades at the Cooktown aerodrome.
