Running sessions in Stawell
Stawell Amateur Athletic Club has resumed its free Monday night training sessions for runners of all ages and abilities at Stawell’s Central Park.
Club president Keith Lofthouse said the sessions, starting at 6pm for runs of 45 to 50 minutes, were designed to improve fitness and stamina for participants in all sports and for anyone keen to lose weight.
“We would especially like to see lapsed footballers to let them know there is life after footy,” he said.
“The magnificent grass surface at Central Park is gentle on the body.
“I’ve learnt from experience that if you train exclusively on bitumen you risk eventual breakdown.”
Mr Lofthouse said participants needed only to exercise at their own pace.
“Club members use the sessions to prepare for the crosscountry season, but no one has to keep up with the fittest or the fastest,” he said.
“Newcomers will be surprised how much the gap can close after just a few workouts.”
