Broad: Have your say
A federal inquiry into decentralisation of Commonwealth agencies has prompted Member for Mallee Andrew Broad to call on Wimmera and Mallee people to have their say.
Mr Broad said a call for the inquiry had passed through the Senate and people should now explain why the Federal Government should relocate public-sector agencies from metropolitan to regional centres.
“This inquiry will examine the benefits of relocating public sector agencies away from the major cities and into regional towns like Horsham, Stawell, Mildura and Swan Hill and will also look at how the agencies would perform their operations, when relocated,” he said.
“It is vital that we all have our say on this. We need to let Canberra and the Senate Finance and Public Administration References Committee, which is in charge of the inquiry, know why we deserve to have agencies based in our region.
“It’s our chance to show how we will benefit and also, how the agencies can benefit from relocating to the Wimmera and Mallee.”
Mr Broad said the concept of decentralisation had been gaining traction as people realised significant savings in having agencies based regionally, in terms of lower operating and rental costs and for employees seeking housing affordability and improved lifestyle.
“We have the people, we have the infrastructure and we have the space. Let’s show Canberra why they should be investing in the Wimmera and Mallee,” he said.
