Excitement on the Wimmera River

The Weekly Advertiser Horsham - - News -

Water skiing returned to the Wimmera River at the weekend as Natimuk Water Ski Club hosted a free come-and-try event from Horsham City Rowing Club.

Novice skiers tried their hand at the sport under the guidance of instructor Pat Crisp.

Natimuk club president Alister Cameron said new pontoons at the site allowed for easy access for new skiers.

Horsham Rural City Council’s technical services director John Martin said the event was a perfect example of ‘activating’ the river space.

“The council is keen to encourage use of the river. It is a wonderful asset for our community,” he said.

“Natimuk Water Ski Club has run a number of successful events on the river over the years and we were happy to support the come-and-try event.”

The Wimmera River in Horsham is usually closed to water-skiing activities, historically due to environmental and residential concerns, but authorities allow the activity on the waterway for special events.
