Hind­marsh Shire coun­cil­lors have elected Cr Ron Is­may as mayor for the next 12 months.

Cr Is­may rep­re­sents the mu­nic­i­pal­ity’s north ward and is a life­long res­i­dent, busi­ness­man and ac­tive com­mu­nity mem­ber of Rain­bow.

He was elected to coun­cil dur­ing a by-elec­tion in 2013.

Cr Ron Lowe, also from the north ward and in his third term as a coun­cil­lor, will serve as deputy mayor.

Out­go­ing mayor De­bra Nel­son – who served two terms as mayor – ad­dressed her fel­low coun­cil­lors and the gallery dur­ing the coun­cil’s an­nual statu­tory meet­ing, pay­ing trib­ute to the Hind­marsh com­mu­nity for its on­go­ing sup­port.

Coun­cil­lors Tony Sch­nei­der and Rob Ger­sch con­grat­u­lated Cr Nel­son on her ser­vice and achieve­ments as mayor through­out the pre­vi­ous 12 months.

The meet­ing pro­vided an op­por­tu­nity to recog­nise the many con­tri­bu­tions of coun­cil­lors, staff and vol­un­teers that make Hind­marsh Shire tick.

Sev­eral coun­cil staff re­ceived cer­tifi­cates ac­knowl­edg­ing 10, 15, 20 and 35 years of ser­vice.
