Golfers play for Jimmy
Competitors at a Jimmy Bates Memorial tournament at Horsham Golf Club raised $2742 to help promote junior golf.
The tournament, organised by Allen ‘Hoss’ Kemp, attracted 36 teams that competed in a four-person ambrose event.
Mr Bates was a strong promoter and supporter of junior golf. The event started in 2006 when he was in intensive care battling serious illness. In a gesture reflective of how much junior golf meant to him, he left his hospital bed to be at the course for the inaugural tournament, but died on the course that day.
Mr Kemp, the event founder, said during 12 years the tournament had raised more than $35,000. Matt Mcdonald, Rob Cole, Brendan Moar and Megan Ashton had the best nett score on the day, winning from Brent Mcintyre, Izabella Mcintyre, Brett Cookson and Matt Jakobi. Other results: Best scratch, D. Yendall, J. Briggs, S. Briggs, L. Gebert, runners-up, J. Lacey, L. Lacy, S. Grover, B. Dufty.
Nearest the pins: Second, men, L. Robson, women, L. Lacey; fourth, J. Schmidt, 11th, M. Taylor, 15th, H. Jaensch.
