Safety award for Horsham officer

Horsham Police officer Leading Senior Constable Julieanne Barrett has won official recognitio­n for ‘exceptiona­l’ commitment for her role in Victoria Police.

Leading Sen Con Barrett received a special commendati­on at Chief Commission­er’s Safety Awards in Melbourne.

The award was for her work with a Victoria Police Peer Support Program and members of Victoria Police in the Wimmera.

Peer Support Officers are volunteers who take on roles in addition to standard policing duties.

The role of a peer support officer is to offer initial support and help to colleagues regarding work, family and personal issues, assess the need for critical incident stress defusing or debriefing, make referrals to appropriat­e health and support services, and, if necessary, provide follow-up support for colleagues.
