Stu­dent sus­pended

A 13-year-old boy who al­legedly hit an older stu­dent with a crow­bar dur­ing a school­yard fight has been given a ju­ve­nile cau­tion by po­lice and sus­pended from school.

The Hamp­ton Se­nior High School Year 8 stu­dent has been sus­pended for the 10-day max­i­mum and the school is still in­ves­ti­gat­ing the be­hav­iour of other stu­dents in the al­ter­ca­tion.

Po­lice were called to the Mor­ley school on Tues­day morn­ing af­ter the Year 8 stu­dent al­legedly hit a Year 9 stu­dent in the face as the 14-year-old tried to pro­tect a friend who was be­ing bul­lied.

Teach­ers rushed to in­ter­vene, dis­arm­ing the al­leged at­tacker and lock­ing him in a class­room un­til po­lice ar­rived. The in­jured boy had a cut above his right eye and a swollen face.
