Asylum seekers’ cost
A Government audit reveals that it costs $573,000 to house a single asylum seeker offshore for one year. Supporting that person on a bridging visa in Australia would cost $40,000.
Now that the boats have stopped, and we have the system to keep them stopped, we need to get these people out of the island detention jails and into the community where they can live a productive life, and not cost anything.
If both major parties don’t want to look at the morality, let them intelligently look at the economics. This outdated policy is ripping us off for millions.
