SENATE BURN

The West Australian - - INSIDE COVER -

A Senate inquiry into the future of rugby in Australia held a hearing in Perth this week, with Senator Linda Reynolds grilling ARU former chief operating officer Rob Clarke about the sale of the Melbourne Rebels for $1 to Kiwi businessman Andrew Cox.

Reynolds said Clarke was “stretching the bounds of credibility” by suggesting he didn’t know details of the sale from the ARU’s own annual reports, to which he replied the reports contained “a lot of complexities”.

“Mr Clarke, we might be senators but we’re not stupid,” Reynolds replied.

“We can read your annual reports just as well, obviously better, than you can.”
