‘Lift race age limit’

The West Australian - - NEWS - Dylan Caporn

State Opposition Leader Mike Nahan has supported a higher age limit for junior drag racers after the death of Anita Broad at the weekend.

Dr Nahan said he was shocked when he heard a child as young as eight could operate a dragster.

“They’re very violent, quick things,” he said. “I would think you’d put an age limit on that, exactly what (age) I can’t say.”

When asked whether the age limit should be higher than eight, Dr Nahan replied: “Yeah.”

“I mean that’s a little girl,” he said. “She shouldn’t be driving a violent vehicle like that.”

Dr Nahan’s comments came as Anita’s school paid tribute to the eight-year-old at a special assembly yesterday.

Aubin Grove Primary School principal Frank Pansini said that Anita was a “larger-thanlife” character.

“She had such an amazing vitality about her,” he said. “She was a kind and caring student.

“She was the sort of girl that anybody who knew her would love her.

“She was a special person. “It was important that in a school like this where everybody wants to be able to do something to honour the memory of Anita, that we do something as soon as possible.”
