Subsidise rock fishers

The West Australian - - LETTERS -

I would like to know why Mr McGowan’s Government has favoured one group of West Australians over another.

Sadly, there have been 15 fatal shark attacks in WA since 2000. That prompted the Labor Government to subsidise shark shields for surfers to the value of $200 each.

However, since 2002 there have been 26 rock-fishing drownings.

But there is no subsidy for rock fishermen when buying lifejackets and rock-hopper boots.

I am aware that rock anchors and life rings have been installed around the coast. They were installed by volunteers and the Liberal government.

My request is for a subsidy for personal safety equipment. Come on Mr McGowan, treat all us West Australians equally. Ray Walker, Busselton
