Mining history buffs will be champing at the drill bit to get their hands on a new book which details the history of former WA resources institution Western Mining.
Mandarins & Mavericks: Remembering Western Mining 1933-2005 is a 400-page hard cover with pictures, graphs, maps and profiles.
The book revisits the company’s humble beginnings as a WA gold explorer founded by WS Robinson in 1933 to a diversified global miner as well as its demerger and takeover by BHP in 2005.
Written by former business journalist Martin Summons, it is the brainchild of former WMC historian Gilbert Ralph.
Former executives Arvi Parbo, Hugh Morgan, Jeff Gresham, David Griffiths and Don Morley formed a committee to fund the book, available for $59.95 from firstname.lastname@example.org.
