Break­fast treat ideal foodie fes­ti­val starter

Chef Nobu Mat­suhisa does not do break­fast. Un­til now.

The in­ter­na­tional chef and coowner, with ac­tor Robert de Niro, of the 36 restau­rant Nobu global hos­pi­tal­ity em­pire is bring­ing break­fast to Perth.

The unique, one-off event — and a first for Nobu — is pre­sented by The West Aus­tralian Good Food Guide and Crown Perth and is one of the culi­nary events in a week­end of unique foodie cel­e­bra­tions and din­ners in the lead-up to The West Aus­tralian Good Food Guide awards night on Oc­to­ber 29.

“It’s quite in­cred­i­ble, ac­tu­ally,” Crown Perth’s gen­eral man­ager, food and bev­er­age Chris Har­ris said.

“It’s not just a break­fast based on Nobu’s usual menu. Nobu’s chefs have de­vised an en­tirely new set of dishes for this event.”

Dishes in­clude slow-cooked pork belly to­ban with Ku­rub­ota sausage, on­sen egg and onion jam and French toast with straw­berry maple ba­con crum­ble, matcha anglaise and yuzu cream.

Nobu chief ex­ec­u­tive Leif Huru said cre­at­ing a once-off Nobu break­fast was a chal­lenge.

“Stay­ing true to the Nobu ethos while cre­at­ing a new range of dishes for break­fast was dif­fi­cult and fun,” he said.

“I think peo­ple will be gen­uinely ex­cited at the food, too.”

The West Aus­tralian Good Food Week­end at Crown be­gins on Fri­day, Oc­to­ber 26, with a Flavour Odyssey lunch at Bistro Guil­laume hosted by Guil­laume Brahimi and The West Aus­tralian Good Food Guide’s reign­ing Som­me­lier Of The Year Emma Far­relly.

It con­cludes with a wine and cheese mas­ter­class at Rock­pool Bar and Grill.

The event will be hosted by head som­me­lier An­drew Symes and teams the finest cheeses from around the world with se­lected wine flights.

The awards are the Perth hos­pi­tal­ity com­mu­nity’s an­nual recog­ni­tion of ex­cel­lence with the an­nounce­ment of the Good Food Guide Top 50 list.
