Misuse of ‘ethnic’

The West Australian - - AGENDA -

The West Australian published an excellent letter by the African writer of Delusions of ethnicity (Letters, 9/11).

All Australians are “ethnic” in that we all belong to a particulate race or cultural group. African people are just people in Africa.

It is only when they emigrate to a predominantly white country that they become “black people”.

“Ethnic” should not be used as a divisive label. We are all just people.
