Pound foolish cost cuts

The West Australian - - AGENDA -

Your report on the BHP train derailment (WestBusiness, 8/11) begs the question of why was there only one driver in charge of this multimillion-dollar train? I seem to recall there would once have been two. Modern automated technology and labour cost cutting bring to mind the old adage of “Penny wise, pound foolish.”
