Local contractor wins tender
Brett Pollock Constructions set to build new Maranoa netball courts
THE tender for work on the construction of Roma’s new netball courts and clubhouse has been won by a local contractor.
Brett Pollock Constructions Pty Ltd was appointed the preferred tenderer for the construction of the Roma Netball Courts and Clubhouse Project at Bassett Park at the Maranoa Regional Council’s general meeting on Wednesday.
Set to provide a quality facility for the current and future netball players of the region and beyond, this project is part of a dynamic move to grow Bassett Park as the region’s major sporting facility.
Councillor David Schefe, Portfolio Chair for Local Business said he was delighted that a local tenderer was successful in securing this contract. “Not only is Brett Pollock Constructions a 5 star local business and the winning tenderer for this contract, the business will also support other Maranoa businesses by using a number of local sub-contractors as well.
“We commend this commitment to local business,” Cr Schefe said.
Portfolio Chair for Sport and Recreation councillor Peter Flynn, said he was thrilled to see this project progress as part of the Bassett Park Master Plan and looked forward to works commencing within the coming months.
“As a council, we have been committed to building a quality netball precinct equal to other regional facilities in Queensland to meet the current needs of school, social and competitive members, while allowing for the projected growth of the sport,” Cr Flynn said.
“Once complete, these new facilities will provide a superior playing area for local, inter-district and regional netball training and competitions – it will be incredibly exciting once the works are complete.”
The netball complex project will include eight netball courts, a superior cushioned surface throughout, large clubhouse and amenities.
Council will continue to work with Bassett Park user groups leading up to and during construction period.
The Queensland Government provided $850,000 to Maranoa Regional Council to the Roma Netball Courts Project to increase Queenslanders participation in sport and recreation activities.
