Lo­cal con­trac­tor wins ten­der

Brett Pol­lock Con­struc­tions set to build new Maranoa netball courts

THE ten­der for work on the con­struc­tion of Roma’s new netball courts and club­house has been won by a lo­cal con­trac­tor.

Brett Pol­lock Con­struc­tions Pty Ltd was ap­pointed the pre­ferred ten­derer for the con­struc­tion of the Roma Netball Courts and Club­house Project at Bas­sett Park at the Maranoa Re­gional Coun­cil’s gen­eral meet­ing on Wed­nes­day.

Set to pro­vide a qual­ity fa­cil­ity for the cur­rent and fu­ture netball play­ers of the re­gion and be­yond, this project is part of a dy­namic move to grow Bas­sett Park as the re­gion’s ma­jor sport­ing fa­cil­ity.

Coun­cil­lor David Schefe, Port­fo­lio Chair for Lo­cal Busi­ness said he was de­lighted that a lo­cal ten­derer was suc­cess­ful in se­cur­ing this con­tract. “Not only is Brett Pol­lock Con­struc­tions a 5 star lo­cal busi­ness and the win­ning ten­derer for this con­tract, the busi­ness will also sup­port other Maranoa busi­nesses by us­ing a num­ber of lo­cal sub-con­trac­tors as well.

“We com­mend this com­mit­ment to lo­cal busi­ness,” Cr Schefe said.

Port­fo­lio Chair for Sport and Recre­ation coun­cil­lor Peter Flynn, said he was thrilled to see this project progress as part of the Bas­sett Park Mas­ter Plan and looked for­ward to works com­menc­ing within the com­ing months.

“As a coun­cil, we have been com­mit­ted to build­ing a qual­ity netball precinct equal to other re­gional fa­cil­i­ties in Queens­land to meet the cur­rent needs of school, so­cial and com­pet­i­tive mem­bers, while al­low­ing for the pro­jected growth of the sport,” Cr Flynn said.

“Once com­plete, th­ese new fa­cil­i­ties will pro­vide a su­pe­rior play­ing area for lo­cal, in­ter-district and re­gional netball train­ing and com­pe­ti­tions – it will be in­cred­i­bly ex­cit­ing once the works are com­plete.”

The netball com­plex project will in­clude eight netball courts, a su­pe­rior cush­ioned sur­face through­out, large club­house and ameni­ties.

Coun­cil will con­tinue to work with Bas­sett Park user groups lead­ing up to and dur­ing con­struc­tion pe­riod.

The Queens­land Gov­ern­ment pro­vided $850,000 to Maranoa Re­gional Coun­cil to the Roma Netball Courts Project to in­crease Queens­lan­ders par­tic­i­pa­tion in sport and recre­ation ac­tiv­i­ties.
