Time to tackle skills at clinic

RUGBY UNION: Are you look­ing for a fun, friendly, healthy ex­pe­ri­ence for your kids dur­ing the Septem­ber hol­i­days? Look no fur­ther, the Rook­ies2Reds pro­gram has your fu­ture footy stars sorted.

The Queens­land Reds have in­vited kids aged 5–12 years to be­gin their jour­ney and come along to the Roma Echid­nas Rook­ies2Reds hol­i­day clinic next week.

The pro­gram will run on Tues­day, Septem­ber 19, from 9am–noon.

The clinic will in­clude pass­ing, kick­ing, catch­ing and tack­ling skills.

The clinic will be bro­ken up into three age groups:

Lit­tle Leg­ends (5–7 years), Ju­nior Champs (8–9 years) and Fu­ture Stars (10–12 years).

The Reds are due back in Roma in Term 4 to make high school vis­its to Roma State Col­lege, St John’s School, Miles State High and


Queens­land Rugby Union spokesman Daniel Bir­rell said the Rugby sev­ens school clin­ics would be run with mod­i­fied games.

“We’re look­ing to grow the ju­nior and grass­roots rugby union through­out the re­gion,” he said.

“Es­pe­cially con­sid­er­ing Emilee Cherry’s re­cent suc­cess as a Roma girl, play­ing on the in­ter­na­tional stage.

“The school clin­ics will in­volve pass­ing, catch­ing, kick­ing, tack­ling and spa­tial aware­ness.”
