Men of League golf fundraising day secures big names of NRL
GOLF: Maranoa locals are invited to come and join the Men of League golf day next Saturday.
The initiative was started three years ago in conjunction with the golf club to raise funds for the Men of League campaign.
Chairman of the Roma District Rugby League Club Peter Flynn said the day was an opportunity for money to be raised for ex-rugby league platers down on their luck.
“It is an Australia-wide organisation that aims to help those involved with rugby league, both players and volunteers. One of the biggest charity organisations in Australia and is officially supported by the NRL,” Mr Flynn said.
“In the past we have raised money for mobility scooters, fuel vouchers, Christmas hampers and many different options.”
The golf day will begin on Saturday morning at 10am with guest appearances from former Queensland Maroons players David Shillington, Michael Crocker and Chris Walker, as well as Cronulla Sharks utility Kurt Capewell and ex-Bronco Shane Walker.
“We have a four-person ambrose golf tournament kicking off at 10am with the main speakers and tee of around 12pm,” Men of League member and organiser Steve Outen said.
Major sponsors for the day Darryl and Judy Harland, Coho Resources, Kinetic Energy and Toll Energy. AAM Investor Group are also sponsoring nine holes of the golf day.
“On the Saturday these NRL players are coming to our golf day and AAM have also organised a donation of $5000 to the NRL State of Mind program,” Mr Flynn said.
SUPPORT: Steve Outen and Owen Lingrad from Men of League are preparing for their annual golf fundraising day next weekend.
