BASKETBALL: Keen basketballers from the Maranoa region will descend on the courts of Roma this weekend for the fifth Best of the West Carnival.

Under-13 and Under-19 teams from Mt Isa, Toowoomba and St George will play at the PCYC.

President of the Maranoa Basketball Association, Mat Gane, said the carnival is a great opportunity for young players.

“The kids have the opportunity to play and develop their skills,” he said.

The carnival will also give young competitors the chance to join Southwest selection trials to play for the Darling Downs.

The highlight of the weekend will be the A-Grade Q Clash between the Toowoomba Saints and The University of Southern Queensland.

The game, which will start at 3pm tomorrow will feature some Queensland Basketball League players.

“We haven’t had competitive basketball here for a few years, so we’re looking forward to it,” said Mr Gane.

“We’re aiming to get another QBL game back here as well for another pre-season match.”

“We’re looking forward to it.”
