One big race down, and one more to go

The Western Star - - NEWS OPINION - Jorja McDonnell jorja.mcdonnell@western

BEFORE arriving in Roma I had never been to a race meeting in my life yet, in a strange twist of fate, the Race to Roma final ended up being the first story I covered for the paper.

Since then I have written about plenty more races across the region – Mitchell, Morven and Cunnamulla just to name a few – and have been learning on the fly when it comes to the ins and outs of the sport.

It has been a challenge I have tried to embrace in the lead up to the big end-of-year events – namely the Charleville Cup, and next weekend’s Roma Cup.

One of the two has already been knocked over for this year and being able to spend the day in Charleville for the Cup was absolutely fantastic.

While it was technically a work day for me, I couldn’t help but have a fun time when everyone else was so happy to be there enjoying the festivities while dressed to the nines.

The thrilling final race of the day was the icing on the cake, and is recapped in full in today’s paper.

Next on the agenda is the big one in Roma and I am hopeful for another great day out because I have been looking forward to this one for months.

My outfit is ready to go and I’m excited to head town to the track, along with at least the 7000 others expected to attend, and catch the last country cup for the year.

Feel free to flag me down for a photo with friends, because there will be happy snaps galore.
