In the Blue Moun­tains, you can be five min­utes from a cof­fee shop while stand­ing on the edge of some of the largest un­touched wilder­ness in the world.

Your jour­ney starts at North Head's Q Sta­tion ho­tel which en­joys panoramic views of Syd­ney Har­bour from a na­tional park, home to en­dan­gered Long-nosed Bandi­coots and Lit­tle Pen­guins. Then you’ll travel to the heart of the Blue Moun­tains, a pri­vate na­ture re­serve in the Caper­tee Val­ley, as you take a guided search for Red-necked Wal­la­bies, Wom­bats and colour­ful cock­a­toos, be­fore din­ing at your farm­stay. Fi­nally, you’ll stand at the edge of pre­cip­i­tous cliffs, over­look­ing sheer-sided val­leys 1,000m deep on the edge of the im­pen­e­tra­ble Gross Wilder­ness. You’ll take a guided walk deep into a rain­for­est val­ley (re­turn­ing by ca­ble car) and learn about the world-fa­mous Wollemi Pine, a Juras­sic rem­nant dis­cov­ered in 1994.

Day 1-2 Af­ter ar­rival in Syd­ney, you’ll be trans­ferred to Q Sta­tion Ho­tel, a hid­den gem in the north­ern reaches of Syd­ney Har­bour. Long-nosed Bandi­coots and Ring-tailed Pos­sums can be seen on a guided evening walk with lo­cal ex­pert and au­thor of Wildlife of Aus­tralia, Louise Eger­ton. The fol­low­ing day you will ex­pe­ri­ence the nat­u­ral beauty of Syd­ney Har­bour on a full-day guided walk­ing tour.

Day 3-4 Catch the train to Ka­toomba in the Blue Moun­tains, one of the most beau­ti­ful train jour­neys in the world, where you will be picked up by your guide and driven to the stun­ning Caper­tee Val­ley. If weather and sea­son per­mits, that evening you'll be joined by bat ex­pert Marg Tur­ton where she will con­duct microbat trap­ping. Af­ter a walk and leisurely breakfast at your B&B, you will be driven to Ka­toomba to ex­plore the his­toric town­ship.

Day 5 In the morn­ing, you will be met by lo­cal bush-walker and Blue Moun­tains wildlife ex­pert Wyn Jones. Wyn will take you for a

leisurely walk into a deep canyon past spec­tac­u­lar scenery and un­der rain­for­est wa­ter­falls. From the bot­tom of the val­ley, you'll take a ca­ble car ride up the moun­tain. In the af­ter­noon, you’ll catch the train back to Syd­ney.
