Some 77 per cent of read­ers say they pre­fer to use lo­cal trades and ser­vices

Lo­cally-owned busi­nesses are the foun­da­tion of strong com­mu­ni­ties. They sus­tain a vi­brant town cen­tre, cre­at­ing jobs and ser­vic­ing the area.

Data in­di­cates read­ers of com­mu­nity news­pa­pers look to sup­port busi­nesses in their neigh­bour­hood where pos­si­ble. Com­mu­nity read­ers over-in­dex as users of lo­cal ser­vices com­pared to gen­eral pop­u­la­tion, ac­cord­ing to emma.

When it comes to home­im­prove­ment, read­ers look to lo­cal tradies. They are 30 per cent more likely to use lo­cal trades­peo­ple for home ren­o­va­tions and 29 per cent more likely to em­ploy a lo­cal gar­den­ing ser­vice.
