Arlechin

Banging Italian food, cocktails and wine till 3am am m

WHO KNEW THAT there were more hidden alleys to put cool bars in? The Grossis did. Behind Grossi Florentino is Mornane Place, home to the new late-night hangout Arlechin. The Grossisos have always had a strong handle on wines, and Arlechin doubles as a central cellar to all the Grossi venues. You’ve got your pick from the master wine list; try a Sutton Grange fiano (a local expression of an Italian white) next to the more nerdy 500ml biodynamic, skin contact, sulphur-free Radikon ‘Jakot’ fromm Friuli. Cocktails play a strong game here, as Joe Jones has put together a cocktail program that not only plays to the classics but features lesser-known tipples that highlight spirits from or inspired by Italy. The Jungle Bird is a cheerful introduction too thet bitterness of Campari, combining it with rum, pineapple juice and lime. One of the best things about Arlechin isn’t just that it’s open until three, it’s that the kitchen is along for the ride. Youu could be eating a tousle of spaghetti laced in a bright tomato sauce studded with garlic and capers, or a Bolognese jaffle that conjures up the Aussie-italian upbringing you never had mornane Melbourne 3000. 300 arlechin.com.au. Daily 5pm-3am.
