IT SHOULD’VE BEEN SIMPLE.

Early March, London to Folkestone, 70 miles. Take tunnel. Nip into Lille, then on to a meeting north of Paris. That’s 186 miles in France. In advance, I’d spent an hour scouting charger maps.

Plan: use Eurotunnel charger, then another top-up using the autoroute charging network, and fully recharge at destination.

Reality: charger at Folkestone not working. Got to France with too little charge, dropped into Lille, set off south. First autoroute charger dead. Went south to next one... also dead. Phone them to be told their whole network is out that day. (Same happened to me once with the UK’s Electric Highway network.) Limped back to Lille and slow charged. Never made Paris.
