In finding Doc’s old stadium, Lightning learns more about his friend’s legacy. “There’s 28 hours of recordings of Paul Newman,” says director Brian Fee. “When John Lasseter was recording him on Cars, in between takes, Paul’s telling stories and John and him are just talking and all of that got recorded. So we are certainly using some of that. Even though Doc’s not with us anymore in the movie, he’s still a main character.”
