Kiwi di­rec­tor Roger Don­ald­son’s con­ven­tional sports doc pays trib­ute to fel­low New Zealan­der Bruce McLaren, the F1 driver and pi­o­neer­ing car de­signer who founded the McLaren team in the ’60s, only to die while test­ing a ve­hi­cle, aged just 32. Don­ald­son does a fine job of cel­e­brat­ing his sub­ject’s many achieve­ments. Yet com­pared to, say, Ayr­ton Senna, McLaren him­self doesn’t cut a com­pelling fig­ure. Tom Daw­son
