Thor’s having a midlife crisis…” says Chris Hemsworth of the newly shorn Marvel god. “I’ve played this character five times, so I thought if we’re going to make another Thor film, there needs to be some changes, not just to [Thor]... but to the whole Marvel universe.” This is Thor unlike you’ve ever seen him before, and we’re not just talking about his trip to the barbers. Under the direction of Taika Waititi (What We Do In The Shadows, Hunt For The Wilderpeople), this could be the funniest, most out-there MCU movie yet.

Comic-Con footage showed the Asgardian being sold as a gladiator to Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, then pitted in combat against his friend from work, the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). “He’ll be damned if he has to go back to being Banner,” says Ruffalo of the green giant, who’s developed his own language since flying off into space in Age Of Ultron. Work friends or not, don’t expect Hulk – or anyone else – to go easy on Thor. As Hemsworth says with a grin, “Thor gets his ass kicked in this movie.”
