Director David Leitch starring Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, Zazie Beetz, T.J. Miller, Morena Baccarin eta 1 June 2018
When Total Film spoke to Ryan Reynolds in New York a couple of months ago, he said the script for Deadpool 2, written by returning screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, was already in the can: “We’re in a place where we’re just writing alternative jokes,” he grinned.
Expect returns for Morena Baccarin as Wade’s partner Vanessa Carlysle and T.J. Miller as sidekick Weasel, as well as Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapicic as Colossus and Leslie Uggams as Deadpool’s flatmate Blind Al. But the big news is that Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz is set to play mercenary Domino. And the really big news is that a pumped-up Josh Brolin is crossing universes (he is, of course, Thanos in the MCU) to throw
serious shade as the iconic Cable. “No sugar, no breads, no pastas, no drugs, none of it,” tweeted Brolin. It’s a strong fit after Kyle Chandler, Brad Pitt, Michael Shannon and Pierce Brosnan were all mooted in the lead-up to the announcement.
The plot, for now, is firmly under wraps, though Reynolds and new director David Leitch (Atomic Blonde) are keen to not fall into the biggeris-better sequel trap; it was, after all, Deadpool’s scrappy underdog quality that made it fresh. Well, that and Deadpool’s huge gob: “I think Deadpool 2 will comment on anything that’s happening in movies today, especially in superhero movies,” says producer Simon Kinberg. “The sort of glut or saturation of these movies and the proliferation of sequels is definitely something we’ll play around with.” JG
