Director Matt Reeves starring Ben Affleck eta TBC
Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice and Suicide Squad had major issues, but a grizzled Ben Affleck as the Dark Knight wasn’t one of them. And so it was that solo movie The Batman – to be directed by Affleck himself – was something to get excited about… until he pulled out of the helming gig in January, citing exhaustion. After an initial fan-frenzy (is Affleck being sacked as Batman?), the ship – or rather Bat Boat – has now steadied. Matt Reeves (Cloverfield, War For The Planet Of The Apes) is in the vacated chair and is working on a new script, while Affleck is still wearing the cowl, not a scowl.
“Welcome to the Batcave, Matt Reeves,” Affleck tweeted on 23 February, and vocally put minds at ease at Comic-Con in July: “Batman is the coolest part in any universe. Let me be very clear – I am the luckiest guy in the world. I’m so thrilled to do it.” Regards the plot, next to nothing is known at present. Joe Manganiello (True Blood, Magic Mike) signed on as assassin Deathstroke, while there are rumours that it will incorporate elements of storyline ‘A Death In The Family’, concerning the death of the second Robin, Jason Todd. But it’s up in the air since Reeves started afresh. JG
