Sloppily assembled and morally repugnant, Eli Roth’s rehash of Michael Winner’s notorious 1974 hit is the remake nobody wanted. Bruce Willis is a surgeon who turns vigilante after his wife is slain and daughter left comatose by home invaders. At a time when mass shootings are depressingly commonplace, it’s dismaying to see a film that so fetishises gunplay and endorses torture as a means to an end.
