It was certainly a female-heavy set, from Renee’s core friends (Busy Philipps and Aidy Bryant), to the LeClair Empire (Michelle Williams and Lauren Hutton). “It was the best,” Schumer says. “I love men, but women are my thing. I would always rather spend the day with girls. It is empowering when you see so many women on set doing a great job in a professional situation.”

Which circles back to the 2018 vibe of the film, with promo duties coming only a week after Frances McDormand’s Oscar speech. “We have such an established boys’ club in Hollywood, but I think it’s up to my generation and the generation under me to take the lead in making those changes on higher levels,” says Ratajkowski. “There are people who were raised in a different, non-inclusive Hollywood who are having a hard time with what that really looks like, and not just saying, ‘Make sure you represent this group,’ but really bringing that part of the storytelling and not in a ‘let’s check this box’ way.”

“I’m learning so much this year,” says Schumer. “Something like an inclusion rider, which I have now in my contract. What we see in movies and television really does educate us. The heads of studios and of the entertainment industry have been predominantly white men for so long, so the projects, the taste-makers, the people you hire – it all trickles down, and it’s led to people of colour and people with disabilities and the LGBT community being under-served. People like me, who do have some say right now in their contracts, can say, ‘OK, part of my deal is that the cast of the movie and the crew needs to be indicative of the actual population in this area.’”

Schumer’s ‘inclusion rider’ could make the message of I Feel Pretty, off-screen as well as on, really resonate with 2018 audiences. “That’s something I wasn’t thinking about until this year, and I feel grateful for that knowledge,” Schumer continues. “And I feel excited about doing as much as I can to help.”
