When petty thief Mathieu (Jules Benchetrit) is given community service at a Parisian music school, the grieving school director (Lambert Wilson) sets about transforming him into a virtuoso pianist. Unlike the soaring music being performed, Ludovic Bernard’s latest is heavy on its feet, laden with cliché and – at its worst - unintentionally hilarious. Despite some reliably great support from Kristin Scott Thomas, there’s no escaping the clunky tone, or the feeling that this is just a subpar recital of other, better films.
